FCC Seeks Comment on 2.5 GHz NPRM

On May 10, 2018, the Federal Communications Commission (“FCC” or “Commission”) released the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (“NPRM”) in the Transforming the 2496-2690 GHz (“2.5 GHz”) Band proceeding, adopted in the May Open Meeting. The NPRM proposes to modernize and rationalize Educational Broadband Service (“EBS”) spectrum to allow for more flexible use. The NPRM seeks comment on establishing up to three local priority filing windows to allow applicants who demonstrate that they are physically located within the license area for which they apply to access 2.5 GHz spectrum. The Commission also proposes to make any spectrum remaining after these priority windows available for commercial use through competitive bidding and also seeks comment on earlier alternative auction options.

On June 7, 2018, the Commission published the NPRM in the Federal Register therefore establishing the following comment dates:

Reply comments are due August 6, 2018.
