On June 20, 2018, the Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau (“Bureau”) released a Public Notice seeking input for a staff report on robocalling, pursuant to Commission directive in the 2017 Call Blocking Order (“Order”) (CG Docket No. 17-59).
The Bureau seeks data and other information on the progress and effects of robocalling initiatives among government, industry, and consumers, specifically on how providers are responding to the rules in the Order, what kind of blocking is occurring, and how the consumer complaint data is being used. It also seeks data and information on trends in illegal robocalling (i.e., type of call, call origin, call volume), and asks for specific information on enforcing call traceback and suggestions for improvement and other challenges to combatting robocalls.
