PSHSB Seeks Comment on Petition for Rulemaking of Wireless Priority Service Rules

On August 13, 2018, the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau (“Bureau”) released a Public Notice seeking comment on a Petition for Rulemaking filed by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (“NTIA”) asking the FCC to initiate a rulemaking proceeding to revise the Wireless Priority Service (“WPS”) rules (Appendix B to the Part 64 rules for Priority Access Service) (WT Docket No. 96-86).

NTIA seeks to update the WPS rules to reflect the current operations of the service, the current Executive Branch governance structure, and the need for more robust and reliable communications by National Security and Emergency Preparedness (“NS/EP”) users. NTIA requests “a broad range of substantive changes and administrative and technical updates to the original WPS rules.”
