FCC Launches Investigation Into MF-II Mapping Rules

On December 7, 2018, the Commission published a News Release announcing that it has launched an investigation into potential violations of the Mobility Fund Phase II (“MF-II”) mapping rules, specifically, whether one or more major carriers violated the mapping rules by submitting incorrect coverage maps.

The investigation follows a preliminary review of the 20,809,503 speed tests filed in connection with the challenge process, and the next step of the challenge process (the opening of a response window) has been suspended pending the outcome of this investigation. Chairman Pai ordered the investigation after finding that the “preliminary review of speed test data submitted through the challenge process suggested significant violations of the Commission’s rules.” Commissioner Carr also released a statement in support of the Chairman’s decision to investigate the mapping rules.
