FCC Releases Public Notice Reactivating Equipment Authorization System

On January 18, 2019, the FCC released a Public Notice announcing that it reactivated the Equipment Authorization System (“EAS”) after previously shutting down the EAS in the January 2, 2019 Shutdown Public Notice due to FCC closure.

Reactivating the system allows private sector Telecommunications Certification Bodies (“TCBs”) to grant equipment certifications so that equipment can be imported and marketed in the United States, although no FCC support staff will be provided. However, TCBs are still unable to grant equipment certification for products subject to FCC pre-approval until the FCC resumes normal operation and staff is available for consultation.
