On Monday, February 4, 2019, the FCC released an Order announcing it has voted to create a new a Fraud Division within the Enforcement Bureau.
The Fraud division, comprised of existing staff, will investigate and police the Universal Service Fund and other funding programs that the Commission oversees. The Fraud Division will work closely with other law enforcement entities, including the Office of the Inspector General and Department of Justice.
The creation of the Fraud Division is only a structural change and will not require any changes to FCC rules. The reorganization will not become effective until the Commission obtains the necessary review and approval from OMB and the House and Senate Appropriations Committee and the Order is published in the Federal Register.
The Commission also published a press release with further details.
