FCC Approves ESC Sensor Registrations for 3.5 GHz Band

On Tuesday, November 26, 2019, the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau and Office of Engineering and Technology (“WTB/OET”) released a Public Notice approving the additional or updated Environmental Sensing Capability (“ESC”) sensor deployment and coverage plans (“ESC Sensor Registrations”) of three ESC operators, Commscope, Federated Wireless, Inc., and Google, for the 3.5 GHz band (GN Docket No. 15-319).

As a result, CommScope, Federated Wireless, and Google are authorized to operate their ESC sensors consistent with the information submitted and approved (i.e., sensor locations, configuration, Dynamic Protection Area (“DPA”) coverage), and must operate with at least one Spectrum Access System that has been FCC-approved for commercial deployment. ESC operators must file a notification in GN Docket No. 15-319 before providing commercial service for any given DPA affirming that the sensors are constructed and operational, and provide updates in the docket if any changes are made to their approved deployments.
