CGB Seeks Comment on Truth-in-Billing Rules

On Monday, January 13, 2020, the Commission published in the Federal Register a Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau (“Bureau”) Public Notice (“PN”) seeking to refresh the record on truth-in-billing rules to ensure protections for customers of voice services, thus establishing the comment dates (CC Docket No. 98-170; WC Docket No. 04-36).

In the PN, the Bureau seeks additional comment on proposals (1) to extend the truth-in-billing rules to providers of interconnected Voice over Internet Protocol (“VoIP”) services, and which rules to apply (i.e., those designed for legacy wireline carriers or more recent rules that apply to wireless carriers) and (2) to require all voice service providers, including wireless service providers, to separate government-mandated charges from other charges on consumers’ telephone bills.
