On Wednesday, March 25, 2020, the Wireline Competition Bureau (“Bureau”) released an Order granting a 21-day extension of time for filing comments and reply comments on the February 19, 2020 Public Notice (“Notice”) seeking to refresh the record in the Restoring Internet Freedom and Lifeline Modernization proceedings (WC Docket Nos. 17-208, 17-287, 11-42).
- Comments for are now due April 20, 2020.
- Reply comments are now due May 20, 2020.
The Bureau sought comment in the Notice seeking to refresh the record in the Restoring Internet Freedom and Lifeline proceedings in light of the DC Circuit’s 2019 decision in Mozilla Corp. v. FCC, seeking input on how the changes adopted in the Restoring Internet Freedom Order might affect public safety, pole attachments, and the Lifeline program. Comments were initially due March 30, 2020, and reply comments were due April 29, 2020. On March 11, 2020, a coalition of parties filed a motion to extend the comment and reply comment deadlines by 30 days each, citing a critical need for the extension to enable governments to be able to adequately respond to the issued raised in the Notice regarding public safety. Due to the current ongoing emergency responses related to COVID-19, the Commission finds that a three-week extension is warranted.
