FCC Sets Comment Dates for 6 GHz FNPRM

On Thursday, May 28, 2020, the Commission published in the Federal Register the Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (“FNPRM”) in the Unlicensed Use of the 6 GHz proceeding (ET Docket No. 18-295; GN Docket No. 17-193), thereby establishing the comment dates. The Commission seeks comment on permitting very low power unlicensed devices to operate across the entire 6 GHz band, and on allowing unlicensed access points that are restricted to indoor operation to operate at an increase of 3 dB over the current rules. The FNPRM also seeks comment on allowing access points that operate under the control of an AFC system to be used for mobile applications, and on allowing these access points to transmit with more power than the current rule permits.
