FCC Approves 3.5 GHz Updated ESC Sensor Plans for CommScope and Google

On June 10, 2020, the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau and the Office of Engineering and Technology (“Bureau/OET”) released a Public Notice announcing the approval of updated Environmental Sensing Capability (“ESC”) sensor deployment and coverage plans of two ESC operators for the 3.5 GHz band: CommScope and Google.

The companies are authorized to operate their ESC sensors based on the sensor locations, configuration, and dynamic protection area (“DPA”) coverage submitted to and approved by the Bureau/OET. The covered DPAs are listed in the Public Notice. Each ESC operator must file a notification in GN Docket No. 15-319 prior to providing commercial service to a DPA affirming that the approved sensors are constructed and operational and list the approved SASs with which the ESC is communicating.
