FCC Seeks Comment on Recent T-Mobile Outage

On June 23, 2020, the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau (“Bureau”) released a Public Notice seeking comment on the effects of the June 15, 2020, T-Mobile outage on public safety entities, government entities, and consumers given the importance of dependable and resilient 911 service throughout the United States (PS Docket No. 20-183). The Bureau is interested in learning about the experience of Public Safety Answering Points (“PSAPs”) during the outage including how many 911 calls failed or were otherwise affected by the outage and whether PSAPs potentially impacted by the outage received timely, actionable notification from T-Mobile. Additionally, the Bureau seeks to comment on the outage’s impact from the individual and enterprise consumer perspective including how consumers learned of the outage, how T-Mobile communicated during the outage to its consumers, and whether customers used alternative resources during the outage for communication needs.
