FCC Extends 2.5 GHz Rural Tribal Priority Window

On July 31, 2020, the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau (“Bureau”) issued a Press Release announcing a Memorandum Opinion and Order (“MO&O”) extending the Rural Tribal Priority Window for 2.5 GHz spectrum applications by 30 days due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The new deadline for eligible Tribal entities to apply for licenses for currently unassigned 2.5 GHz spectrum over their rural Tribal lands is September 2, 2020 at 6:00 pm EDT.

To date, over 200 Tribal entities have submitted applications for 2.5 GHz spectrum. In the MO&O, the Commission declined requests for significantly longer extensions in order to avoid delaying the granting of licenses to those who have already applied and need to deploy broadband service quickly to address the hardships caused by the pandemic.
