FCC Publishes Effective Dates for E911 Z-Axis R&O and Order on Recon in the Federal Register

On August 28, 2020, the Commission published in the Federal Register the Sixth Report and Order and Order on Reconsideration on wireless E911 location accuracy requirements (PS Docket No. 07-114).  The amendments adopted in the Report and Order are effective on September 28, 2020, except for those that contain new or modified information collection requirements for Commercial Mobile Radio Services (“CMRS”) providers and are subject to OMB approval.

The provisions containing requirements subject to OMB approval are § 9.10(i)(4)(iv) and

(v), (j)(4), and (k), which require CMRS providers to make additional certifications that they will not use dispatchable location information or z-axis information for non-911 purposes, to provide confidence and uncertainty data for z-axis (vertical) information, and to record information on all live 911 calls.
