FCC Announces Compliance Dates for Kari’s Law/Ray Baum’s Act 911 Dispatchable Location Information

On December 4, 2020, the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau (“Bureau”) released a Public Notice announcing compliance dates for information collection requirements associated with 911 dispatchable location rules adopted in the Report and Order (“R&O”) implementing Kari’s Law and Section 506 of the Ray Baum’s Act (PS Docket Nos. 18-261 and 17-239; GN Docket No. 11-117).

 

The U.S. Office of Management and Budget (“OMB”) recently approved the R&O’s information collection requirements.  The Commission published a notice in the Federal Register announcing OMB approval of the information collection requirements applicable to Fixed Telephony, Interconnected VoIP, Mobile Text, and MLTS.  Accordingly, the following compliance dates apply:

  • Fixed Telephony.  Compliance with 47 CFR § 9.8(a) is required by January 6, 2021.
  • Mobile Text.  Compliance with 47 CFR § 9.10(q)(10)(v) is required by January 6, 2022.
  • Interconnected VoIP.  Compliance with 47 CFR § 9.11(b)(2)(ii) and (iv), (b)(4), and (b)(5)(ii) and (iii) is required by January 6, 2021 for fixed VoIP services, and by January 6, 2022 for non-fixed VoIP services.
  • MLTS.  Compliance with 47 CFR § 9.16(b)(3)(i) is required by January 6, 2021. Compliance with 47 CFR § 9.16(b)(3)(ii) and (iii) is required by January 6, 2022.
  • TRS.  Compliance with 47 CFR § 9.14(d)(2)(ii)-(iii), (d)(2)(v), (d)(4), (e)(2)(ii) and (iv), and (e)(4) is required by January 6, 2021 for fixed services, and by January 6, 2022 for non-fixed services.
