FCC Webinar on Broadband DATA Collection Technical Requirements

On August 12, 2021, the FCC hosted a webinar on the Broadband DATA Collection proposals contained in the July 16, 2021 Public Notice, which is summarized below.  The webinar summarized the proposals contained in the Public Notice and explained in detail how the data from speed tests conducted using FCC approved apps will account for real-world factors, how the FCC plans to utilize the different resolutions of the nesting hexagons for both the verification and challenge process, and the requirements for submitting on-the-ground test data in response to a verification request.

The new propagation model assumptions and parameters set forth in the Broadband DATA Act were recently utilized by the FCC to create a new 4G LTE Mobile Coverage Map for the four largest mobile wireless carriers: AT&T, T-Mobile, UScellular, and Verizon.  The map was created by applying this new propagation modeling to the carrier’s most recent Form 477 data submissions, in which the carriers were allowed to utilize the new standardized parameters established as a part of the Broadband Data Collection.
