FCC Invites Proposals for 6 GHz AFC System Operators

On Tuesday, September 28, 2021, the FCC released a Public Notice inviting proposals from parties interested in operating an automated frequency coordination (“AFC”) system in the 6 GHz band for standard-power operations.  Under the 6 GHz Report and Order, standard-power devices must operate under the control of an AFC system to prevent harmful interference.  The Office of Engineering and Technology (“OET”) can designate one or more AFC operators for a five-year term with the potential for renewal based on performance.  OET will conditionally approve as many proposals as are found to satisfy AFC system requirements.  Applicants who receive a conditional approval will be required to allow access to their AFC system for a public trial period for interested parties to test their accuracy.  Proposals submitted after the due date of November 30, 2021, will be considered by OET but may have a separate public review and comment period.

Initial Proposals Due By: November 30, 2021

Comments of Proposals Due By: December 21, 2021
