FCC Seeks Comment on Safeguards for Sharing NORS and DIRS Data

On February 7, 2022, the FCC published in the Federal Register a Public Notice seeking comment on potential safeguards to protect Network Outage Reporting System (“NORS”) and Disaster Information Reporting System (“DIRS”) information that will be shared with agencies granted access pursuant to the March 17, 2021 Second Report and Order.  Specifically, the Notice seeks comment on:

  • The effectiveness of a FCC process for adding headers and footers to any PDF reports it receives in a NORS account specifying that the data is confidential.
  • The feasibility of including a watermark on documents printed from the NORS/DIRS database by the participating agencies and resolutions to any potential technical difficulties with this process.

Comments are due on or before March 9, 2022.

The Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau also released a Public Notice reminding interested parties of the comment date.
