August 17, 2023 Weekly Wireless Wrap-Up

Good afternoon from Washington, DC!  Below you will find this week’s Wireless Wrap-Up; your update on the wireless telecommunications regulatory landscape, important wireless decisions, and more!  Here is your wrap-up:

  • REGULATORY FEES
    • On 8/10, the FCC released a Report and Order (“R&O”) on the assessment and collection of regulatory fees for Fiscal Year 2023. The R&O adopts a schedule of regulatory fees to assess and collection $390,192,000.  For more information and to view a copy of the R&O, see our post here.
  • INTERNET OF THINGS DEVICES
    • On 8/11, the FCC released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (“NPRM”) proposing a new, voluntary cybersecurity labeling program for Internet of Things (“IoT”) devices. The program is intended to provide information to consumers on the relative safety of various IoT products.  For more information and to view a copy of the NPRM, see our post here.
  • AFFORDABLE CONNECTIVITY PROGRAM
    • On 8/11, the FCC released a Public Notice announcing that the data submission deadline for the Affordable Connectivity Program (“ACP”) Transparency Data Collection is November 9, 2023 based on a reference or snapshot date of August 1, 2023.   • BROADBAND DATA COLLECTION
    • On 8/11, the FCC released a Public Notice seeking comment on a Petition for Extension of Waiver filed by the Competitive Carriers Association and USTelecom – the Broadband Association asking the FCC to extend the waiver of the rule requiring that Broadband Data Collection filings be certified by a licensed professional engineer.
