October 19, 2023 Weekly Wireless Wrap-Up

Good afternoon from Washington, DC!  Below you will find this week’s Wireless Wrap-Up; your update on the wireless telecommunications regulatory landscape, important wireless decisions, and more!  Here is your wrap-up:

  • FCC OPEN MEETING
    • This morning, the FCC held its October Open Commission Meeting. The FCC adopted six items, including a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking seeking comment on reinstating net neutrality rules, a Report and Order on improving Wireless Emergency Alerts to make them more accessible and increase public awareness, and an item on the 6 GHz band that will allow very low power devices to operate in two sub-bands.  For more information and to view a copy of the Agenda, see our post here.
  • 70/80/90 GHZ BANDS
    • On 10/18, the FCC released a Public Notice seeking comment on the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s October 17, 2023 filing proposing technical rules and mitigation measures for operation in the bands. Comments are due on or before November 8, 2023.  For more information and to view a copy of the Notice, see our post here.
  • NTIA BEAD PROGRAM
    • On 10/18, NTIA released a BEAD Initial Proposal Progress Dashboard, which allows the public to track how states are progressing through the major milestones they must complete prior to submitting their Initial Proposals, due to NTIA by December 27, 2023.
