- OPEN MEETINGS
- The FCC will hold its February Open Meeting next Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 10:30 AM. The FCC is scheduled to consider six items, including a Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on strengthening consumers’ ability to revoke consent. - ROBOCALLS
- On 2/6, Enforcement Bureau (“Bureau”) released a Public Notice notifying all U.S.-based voice service providers that, pursuant to Section 64.1200(k)(4), they may block voice calls or cease to accept traffic from Lingo Telecom, LLC ( “Lingo”) after notifying the Commission of their decision and providing a brief summary of their basis for making such a determination, if Lingo either fails to effectively mitigate its illegal traffic within 48 hours of the date of the Public Notice, or if Lingo fails to implement effective measures to prevent new and renewing customers from using its network to originate illegal calls within 14 days of the date of the Public Notice. - On 1/25, the Wireline Competition Bureau released a Public Notice confirming the February 26, 2024 deadline for all providers to submit new or updated information in the Robocall Mitigation Database. For more information and to view a copy of the Notice, see our post here.
- DISASTER INFORMATION REPORTING SYSTEM
- On 1/26, the FCC released the Second Report and Order and Second Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking mandating that cable communications, wireline, wireless, and interconnected Voice over Internet Protocol (“VoIP”) providers report their infrastructure status during emergencies and crises in the Disaster Information Reporting System (“DIRS”) when activated and to submit a final report to the Commission within 24 hours of DIRS deactivation and seeking comment on whether to require broadcasters, satellite providers, FirstNet, and broadband internet access service (“BIAS”) providers to report in DIRS and otherwise comply with the requirements in the 2nd R&O. - EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS
- On 1/26, the FCC released a Report and Order adopting rules requiring Commercial Mobile Radio Service providers to deploy location-based routing technology to route IP-originated wireless 911 calls and real-time-text communications to the appropriate public safety answering point. - 70/80/90 GHZ BAND
- On 1/26, the FCC released the Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking adopting new rules and updating existing ones that govern the 71–76 GHz, 81–86 GHz, 92–94 GHz, and 94.1–95 GHz bands and seeking comment on accommodating additional services in the bands.
