FCC Submits Safe Connections Report and Order to OMB

The FCC announced that it has submitted the Safe Connections Act Report and Order to OMB for approval.  This doesn’t trigger anything yet, but OMB typically reviews and approves new information collection requests within 60 days from the Federal Register publication date.  It seems likely the FCC will receive approval in time for the July 14, 2024 line separation compliance date and there will not be a delay due to the OMB process.

As a reminder, compliance with the records removal requirements won’t be required until December 5, 2024 (one year after date of publication in the Federal Register).  In the event the Wireline Competition Bureau has not released the database download file specification by April 5, 2024 (4 months after date of publication in the Federal Register or in the event the Wireline Competition Bureau has not announced that the database administrator has made the initial database download file available for testing by October 7, 2024 (10 months after date of publication in the Federal Register), the compliance deadline shall be extended consistent with the delay, and the Wireline Competition Bureau is delegated authority to revise the compliance deadline accordingly.
