FCC Issues Clarification on Kaspersky Covered List Inclusion

On September 3, 2024, the Office of Engineering and Technology and the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau (“Bureaus”) issued a Public Notice providing further clarification regarding the July 2024 Public Notice that added cybersecurity and anti-virus software from Kaspersky Lab to the Covered List. As you may recall, this list identifies communications equipment and services deemed to pose an unacceptable risk to U.S. national security or the safety of U.S. individuals.

The latest Public Notice clarifies and confirms that in addition to Kaspersky cybersecurity and anti-virus software, any equipment integrated with Kaspersky’s cybersecurity or anti-virus software, whether produced or provided by Kaspersky or its successors and assignees, is prohibited from receiving equipment authorization from the Commission.
