CGB Seeks Comment on Termination of Dormant Proceedings

On May 2, 2025, the Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau (CGB) released a Public Notice, accompanied by a News Release, seeking comment on whether any of the identified “2,057 docketed Commission proceedings should be terminated as dormant.”  See Attachment.  This effort is part of the Commission’s broader initiative to modernize agency operations, improve transparency, and increase administrative efficiency.

Dormant proceedings are those with no recent filings or further action contemplated, particularly those lacking pending petitions on the merits.  If terminated, procedural requests within these dockets will also be dismissed as moot.  Dockets that are terminated will remain part of the Commission’s public record and accessible for reference.  The CGB also seeks comment on additional dockets that should be terminated, requesting that commenters include justification for each.

This proceeding is distinct from the separate “In Re: Delete, Delete, Delete” proceeding, which targets outdated regulations regardless of docket activity.  The current proceeding focuses specifically on cleaning up inactive dockets.

Comments will be due 30 days from publication in the Federal Register and reply comments will be due 45 days after publication.
