On March 27, 2026, the FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau (“PSHSB”) and Office of Engineering and Technology (“OET”) released a Public Notice (“PN”) seeking comment on a proposal to prohibit the continued importation and marketing of previously authorized communications equipment added to FCC’s Covered List in 2024 or earlier. Under this proposal, all parties would be required to cease all importation and marketing activities within 30 days of the effective date of the adopted prohibition. The PN clarifies that any such prohibition would not affect the continued use of already-purchased equipment; nor affect equipment added to the Covered List after 2024.
PSHSB and OET seek comment on the national security justification for the proposal, as well as its potential economic and supply chain impacts, and tentatively conclude that prohibiting further importation and marketing of the proposed equipment would serve the public interest by reducing risks to U.S. communications networks.
