Opposition Deadlines Set for RDOF Petitions for Reconsideration

On Friday, May 1, 2020, the Commission published in the Federal Register the April 14, 2020, Public Notice announcing the Petitions for Reconsideration (“Petitions”) filed in response to the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (“RDOF”) Report and Order, establishing the opposition deadlines (WC Docket Nos. 19-126, 10-90).

Petitions were filed on behalf of the Illinois Office of Broadband, Heartland Telecommunications Company (“Premier”), and the Vermont Department of Public Service (“VTDPS”). The Illinois Office of Broadband encourages the Commission to reconsider and expand its approach to the state-federal partnership under the RDOF. Premier seeks clarification that the FCC has yet to resolve the questions of what areas will be included in the RDOF Phase II auction and whether it will providing ongoing support to certain areas receiving CAF Phase II support, or alternatively, seeks reconsideration of the decision that only high-cost price cap areas lacking 25/3 Mbps will be eligible for RDOF Phase II. The VTDPS seeks reconsideration of the Commission’s decision to exclude census blocks that receive state broadband subsidies from Phase I, and seeks clarification on how census blocks that receive alternative funding will be determined and excluded from RDOF.

  • Oppositions to the Petitions are due May 18, 2020.
  • Replies to the opposition are due May 26, 2020.
