- APRIL OPEN MEETING
- This morning, the FCC held its April Open Meeting. The Commission adopted several items, including a Second Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking seeking comment on requiring wireless providers to georoute calls to the 988 lifeline and an item that would reclassify broadband Internet access service as a telecommunications service and mobile broadband Internet access service as a commercial mobile service. - MANDATORY DISASTER RESPONSE INITIATIVE
- On 4/8, the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau released a Public Notice reminding facilities based wireless providers that they must comply with the requirements of the Mandatory Disaster Response Initiative (“MDRI”) by May 1, 2024. - SAFE CONNECTIONS ACT
- On 4/8, the FCC released a Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (“FNPRM”) seeking comment on whether to extend the rules implementing the Safe Connections Act to connected car services to further protect domestic violence survivors. - DISASTER INFORMATION REPORTING SYSTEM
- On 4/11, the FCC published in the Federal Register the Second Report and Order (“Order”) mandating that cable communications, wireline, wireless, and interconnected Voice over Internet Protocol providers report their infrastructure status during emergencies and crises in the Disaster Information Reporting System (“DIRS”) when activated and to submit a final report to the Commission within 24 hours of DIRS deactivation. - 2.5 GHZ BAND
- On 4/4, the Broadband Division of the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau released a Public Notice to provide guidance to 2.5 GHz Rural Tribal Priority Window licensees on compliance with the interim performance requirements deadline.
