FCC Publishes 988 Outage Reporting R&O in Fed. Reg.

On January 16, 2024, the FCC published in the Federal Register the Report and Order (“R&O”) adopting reporting and notice requirements for service outages potentially affecting 988 special facilities, thereby setting the effective date.

The Order is effective February 15, 2024, except for the amendments to 47 C.F.R. § 4.9 (“Outage reporting requirements—threshold criteria”), which contain the newly adopted 988 outage reporting requirements.  The effective date of this provision is delayed indefinitely to obtain OMB approval.

The FCC will publish notice in the Federal Register announcing the effective date of this provision once the FCC receives OMB approval.
