April 5th, 2024 Weekly Wireless Wrap-Up

Good afternoon from Washington, DC!  Below you will find this week’s Wireless Wrap-Up; your update on the wireless telecommunications regulatory landscape, important wireless decisions, and more!  Here is your wrap-up:

• APRIL OPEN MEETING TENTATIVE AGENDA
  • On April 4^th, the FCC released the tentative agenda for the April Open Meeting, scheduled for Thursday April 25, 2024. The Commission is scheduled to consider an item that would reclassify broadband Internet access service as a telecommunications service and mobile broadband Internet access service as a commercial mobile service.  The FCC is also scheduled to consider a 988 georouting item and several Enforcement Bureau actions.  For more information, see our post here.
• SECTION 706
  • On March 18^th, the FCC released the 2024 Section 706 Report (“Report”) concerning the availability of advanced telecommunications capability to all Americans, which was adopted at the March Open Meeting. For more information and to view a copy of the item, see our post here. 

• IOT CYBERSECURITY LABELING
  • On March 25^th, the FCC published in the Federal Register the Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking seeking comment on mandating additional manufacturer disclosures as part of the voluntary cybersecurity labeling program for wireless internet of things products, thereby setting comment and reply comment dates. • MDRI
  • On March 26^th, the FCC published a notice in the Federal Register clarifying compliance deadlines associated with the Mandatory Disaster Response Initiative (“MDRI”) Report and Order. For more information and to view a copy of the item, see our post here.

• ROBOCALL ACTIONS
  • On March 27^th, the Enforcement Bureau released an Order announcing that BPO Innovate’s certification was being removed from the Robocall Mitigation Database, which has also triggered certain obligation for service providers. • DIRS REPORTING
  • On March 29, 2024, the FCC published in the Federal Register the Second Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking seeking comment on whether to require broadcasters, satellite providers, FirstNet, and broadband internet access service providers to report in DIRS and otherwise comply with the requirements in the Second Report and Order, thereby setting the comment and reply comment dates.
